Given an unbuilt gallery building by Le Corbusier, we were to fix and add means of egress components in order to make the building within code as well as write a full code review of our solution. I chose to revise the existing ramp and add an additional exterior staircase, while retaining as much of the original design intent as possible. After completing this project, I am now well acquainted and quite comfortable with navigating and applying the International Building Code.
The layout of the original building included a ramp that did not meet code and a lack of a sufficient number of means of egress.
Initial code review, specifically of occupant loads and assessment of their effects on means of egress requirements.
Further code review of more specific, detailed code requirements involved in means of egress.
Specific views describing my solutions and how they address the code requirements.
